About Inky Little Leaf. Botanical Illustration & Watercolour Plant Art

Hi, I'm Annie, the founder of Inky Little Leaf, a botanical illustration artist inspired by plants and the natural world.
My journey into botanical illustration began unexpectedly when a friend gave me a set of watercolour pencils. I started experimenting by adding water to the paper and watching the colours move and blend together. This simple process sparked a fascination with watercolour painting and encouraged me to explore the medium further, eventually leading me to work more deeply with traditional watercolour techniques.
Alongside my growing interest in painting, I have always had a strong love of plants, particularly houseplants. I began painting their leaves, carefully studying them from life. Observing real plants allows me to capture the subtle details of light, shadow, texture, and form that make botanical illustration so unique. Painting from nature brings a sense of calm and connection, and creating botanical artwork gives me a feeling of freedom and joy.
Today, my work focuses on botanical watercolour illustrations that celebrate the beauty of plants. Through Inky Little Leaf, I create botanical prints, plant illustrations, and nature-inspired artwork designed to bring a sense of nature and tranquility into the home.
My work as a botanical illustrator has led to several exciting professional opportunities. I was fortunate to create illustrations for two gardens exhibited at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, both of which were awarded gold medals. These illustrations included detailed pencil and digital plant drawings used to support the design and presentation of the gardens.
I have also collaborated with a garden building company, producing botanical illustrations used for a garden exhibition map. My artwork has been exhibited at the Garden Museum in London, where my botanical illustrations were showcased as part of an exhibition celebrating plants and garden design.
One particularly memorable moment in my career was learning that my illustrations had reached the hands of Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, from whom I received positive feedback.
In addition, my botanical watercolour work has been featured by the Association of Illustrators, further supporting the development of my professional practice.
Through Inky Little Leaf, I aim to celebrate the beauty of plants through botanical illustration, watercolour artwork, and nature-inspired design. Nature offers a sense of peace and inspiration, and my goal is to share that feeling through botanical art and plant illustrations that bring the outdoors into everyday spaces.
Thank you for being here and supporting Inky Little Leaf.
